We hired a photographer and total we paid $1200. This included 6 hours of photography, as well as 12 8×10′s, 1 11×14, 20 5×7′s, and 28 4×6′s. We are also getting a cd of all of the pictures and the copyright is waived so we can do whatever we want with the prints. We got a great deal!

I paid $1000. This includes all day long photography. She will be there at 8am for our pedicures and stay until my fiance and I leave the reception at 11pm that night. There will be two photographers on site all day. A male who follows the groom and his party all day and a woman who follows me and my party all day. Then they will both photograph the ceremony and reception. I get every picture they take fully edited on a CD with copyrights waived. Therefore I will every picture edited from my day to do whatever I want with them. In addition I am getting a coffee table flush mount album for about $75. So total $1,075. I got a steal.

Depends on the area you live. Most average from $800-$1500 depending on the package. however, check out http://www.craigslist.com for local vendors in your area, they offer really great rates. I personally am using a local college student who is majoring in photography. I have seen some of her work and feel that she will do a great job. She is only going to charge me $100 and she has my permission to use some photos in her portfolio.

My cousin is a professional photographer. I’d hire him at whatever price he would quote.

Just make sure that you get the original digital files on DVD or CD-R and that the photographer has given all rights of the photos to you!

Make sure that the photographer has really high end equipment, not a rinky dink SLR wannabe.

No more than $2,000. We payed $4,300 and all we got was a CD and and album. Plus they posted pictures to purchase online that were not included in our CD! And each 4×6 is $8.00!! Why should we have to pay extra for picures we purchased? Anyways, Im sure you can find someone who does excellent work for $2,000 or less.

Cheapies beware: you’re taking a large risk paying less than $1800 for your photographer. If you can live without liking your wedding pictures for the rest of your life then by all means go ahead and look for a bargain.

Don’t you think it might be better to pay more than you expected rather than paying less than you should?

2400 we get two albums, the cd with ALL the pictures from both guys, 4 8×10′s, 2 11×14, 4 5×7′s, and 6 4×6′s (frames and pics), 9 hours and Engagment seating with pictures and a cd

    Hi Kiki,

I’m a professional photographer. As you can see, the numbers are all over the ballpark. That’s because your question is very general – it’s like asking how much a car costs. A 20 year old “junk” car might be $500, while a new Bentley or Rolls Royce might run $250,000.

Is it for a full day’s coverage of a big church wedding with 250 guests or just a few hours with a civil ceremony and an intimate gathering of a dozen friends and family? Does the price include albums or prints? How many, and what size? Will the photographer edit, crop, and retouch your images so they are absolutely perfect, or will he just hand you an unedited CD with as many bad pictures as good ones?

My prices in the New York metro area start at $1,299 for a half-day, including an edited CD with your images, an online Internet gallery, and a modest 8 x 8 album.

Your wedding photographs are an important investment, and will bring back memories of your wedding day for decades to come, so go for the best quality you can afford.
