Hi my fiance is shopping for a dress but wondered if there was special underwear for wedding dresses. Since one store told her about ribbed bras or something.
What’s that for anyways? Can’t she just wear her normal bra?
Btw, she’s going for a strapless dress.

wear a strapless and seamless bra. Make sure she tries on strapless bras and chooses one that is not visible through the wedding dress. For underwear get seamless ones, so that you cant see them through the dress.
Congratulations by the way!
She doesn’t have to wear anything she doesn’t want. It’s not like a rule or anything. I didn’t even wear a bra because of the style dress I had. Some women prefer to get spanx which suck you in so you can feel extra gorgeous or a strapless push up bra if it’s necessary to fill out the top of the dress. Once she finds the dress she wants she’ll know what if anything she should get to compliment that.
no. you don’t need anything special. if she wants, she can wear a thong and a tie die strapless bra. it’s just about what she feels good in.
nothing special. I will be wearing a regular bra because i put straps on my dress and thinking i might wear spanxs.
The people at those stores that told her that just want her money.Go for a strapless bra.Doesnt have to be fancy and expensive. Many nice ones at Palais Royal and Bealls. As for underwear, whatever she wears everyday.I mean the dress is going to flow.
In brief: YES! There are many special undergarments that brides may wear, all of which really help show off her gown – and body – to their best advantage. None are required of course, and with many modern dresses a simple bra, panties, and slip will do, but it really depends on the type of gown she has chosen.
For example: shape-wear. This is probably the “ribbed bra” the saleslady was talking about. Lots of brides want to look super slender at their weddings, so they make a special kind of bra that will hold your tummy in very tight, and lift the breasts to make them appear perky and full in the event that she happens to a.) be a little light on top and in need of some oomph or b.) a little big on top and in need of support. These work best with A-line gowns and do not have straps, since most wedding gowns are strapless/sleeveless these days. There are different bras a lady would wear for an empire gown. She can talk to the salesperson about what would look best.
Another important piece of wedding underclothes is the petticoat. Lots of wedding gowns have a wide, full, A-line skirt. A petticoat will help the skirt stay flowing outwards, also creating an additional appearance of a tiny waist that my bridal consultant refers to as “the virginal waistline”. I think that’s hilarious. But in any event, the vast majority of petticoats also have a built-in tummy panel to make the tummy appear much flatter as well. So you can see that if the bride has any plumpness to her, that all this special underwear will help her to hide it very well indeed.
If your bride is a very slender woman, however, she may choose to show that off with a mermaid-type or slip style gown. No petticoat or shape-wear advised in such a case, but she will still need to wear an overall slip to prevent her undergarments from showing through and to make the smoothest possible silhouette.
On the other hand if your wedding has a small budget you may not wish to invest in these little niceties, they do make the bride look especially stunning.
Depends on the structure of her dress. If her dress is very fitted, she may want to get a shaping longline bra (unless she’s perfectly comfortable with her body and plans on getting the dress in her size and not one 2 sizes too small like a lot of women do). If it’s a loose dress, then I see no reason why she can’t just wear a normal strapless or convertible bra with invisible straps. A lot of people I know plan on getting corsets to wear under neath, mostly for fun and some shaping. Spanx are another option people consider, but they are mostly for shaping- sucking in a tummy, lifting a sagging tush, etc.
So, long answer short, Yes she can, but she should consider if her dress will need some more structural garments underneath to maintain the right shape, and stay up all day.
It really depends on the shape of the bride and the shape of the dress.
Cheap foundation garments may alter the way the dress is supposed to look.
With a strapless dress, unless the bra is ‘built in’, she’d need a strapless bra. She would need to make sure it fits properly so that there is no bunching, etc.
most dresses have the required support built in anyway, so it may not be required.
