Should my flower girl’s dress be the same fabric as the other dresses in my wedding?

July 16th, 2010 by Kati

My wedding dress (as well as the bridesmaid dresses) is taffeta. So far I have only been looking at dresses that are taffeta for the sake of continuity. However, that definitely limits the number of possibilities. Would it look okay to have her dress in organza or something similar?

I don’t think it would matter one bit. My bridesmaids were in silk and the flower girl was in chiffon. Her dress more resembled mine than then the bridesmaids.

I don’t think that’s a problem. Unless you are the bride that wants everything to match then it’s fine. I’m actually one of the brides that wants everything to match and my flower girl is wearing my same dress.

I think it won’t matter at all. As brides, we tend to worry about the small details that really don’t matter in the end.

    Good luck.

no it really doesn’t matter. there are a lot of flower girl dresses that are beautiful and will look good even if it isn’t similar to the other wedding party dresses.

It doesn’t need to match. You could even put her in a white dress trimmed with ribbon to match the bridesmaids’ gowns so she contrasts from them but still color coordinates.

My flower girl wore a dress of different fabric, but same color and she looked adorable, not a cookie cutter version in miniature form. Her dress was short and my bridesmaid dress was below the knee, but she is 4 so I wanted her to look cute and springy. I got married the day before Easter and she wore an Easter light pink dress. It does not have to match. Even the color can be a different shade if you want. Whatever makes you and the flower girl’s mom happy is what counts. Best wishes.

It really doesn’t matter. If you did find something that was organza, maybe you can have a large waist sash made in taffeta to compliment the bridesmaids!

It matters only if you can afford to have it matter.

Otherwise, I think that doing the best you can will still look great!

They won’t notice a difference in material much at all.

Of course they can be different. My girls are wearing cotton dresses and my jr bridemaid is wearing satin and my flower girl has a white cotton dress and my dress is satin with lace. They all look fine together.

No they just have to match in color somewhat. Now that you ask that, I don’t think my flower girls match my bridesmaids and no one will care, trust me.
