What kind of invitation letter/form does my nephew need to come to my wedding in the U.S?

July 27th, 2010 by Kati

I’m getting married in the US. My nephew who is from Turkey wants to come to my wedding. He’s gonna get a visitor visa. What kind of documents does he need from us? Should we send him a wedding invitation? letter from us? Or is there a specific government form for this? Thank you!

  1. George L says:

He doesn’t really need a letter from you although you can certainly send one if you like. or send a wedding invitation. he’ll have to apply for a tourist visa and qualify on his own though.

  2. The "L" Word says:

He doesn’t need a letter however if you can get a letter (on official mosque stationary) from the iman or priest officiating the wedding as well as proof that he will return to Turkey, then that could help. Any letters from the iman should also be notarized just to and have contact info. Also when applying he should show proof that he was invited, how he is related to the couple getting married, who will provide his housing and funds when he is in the USA. Showing a bank statement from a Turkish bank, a major credit card and also traveler’s health insurance (should get sick in the USA) also helps.

Also passport must be machine readable, have at least 6 months of validity still on it and show proof of roundtrip plane ticket to Istanbul.
