The Boldest Wedding Favors Out There!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

The days of the “blushing bride” are over! In times past it was expected that the bride would be demure, shy, and even timid, but those days are long gone. Today’s bride is often a career oriented, successful woman that is not shy about her choices when it comes to every detail of her wedding, and nowhere in the wedding ceremony is this more obvious than her choice of wedding favors. How so?

Think of the statement that many wedding favors make about the bride, her groom, and their life together. For example, many today are giving out packets of seeds and even small plants or saplings. This of course shows their concern for the environment. Some brides are choosing small tokens of their favorite hobby or passion, such as models of motorcycles or paperweights with the Harley Davidson logo on them, if the bride is a “biker chick” and not afraid to show it. Another popular choice by way of wedding favors is key chains or tokens from a favorite museum, especially one that celebrates her heritage or family. For example, don’t be surprised if you were to receive a souvenir from the Museum of the Cherokee Indian or the African American Heritage Museum at a wedding in the near future. These types of wedding favors make a bold statement from the bride that her family, and her family’s heritage and history, are very important to her.

Another way that wedding favors are becoming bolder – and this is true for all parts of the wedding – is the colors of the favors themselves. It used to be that the “appropriate” colors for a wedding needed to be soft and so-called feminine, such as pastels and mint greens. However, today’s popular color choices for bridesmaid dresses and all other accessories are usually warmer and stronger. Think of shades of warm brown and russet; typically the bride herself might wear a sash of one of these shades as well. Mint green has been replaced with shades of hunter or forest. It’s also not unusual anymore to see a combination of two strong colors such as red and black being used for accessories, invitations, decorations, and even wedding favors.

Of course, many of the standard choices in wedding favors are still popular, including bags of chocolates or personalized candy bar wrappers. However, these too are becoming bolder as the bride is choosing stronger colors for the bags of loose candy and ties that are strings of crystal beads or ribbons in black and red or those warm brown shades. In recent years, many designs for personalized candy bar wrappers are also becoming bolder and more unique, with some companies providing designs that are not just elegant and traditional, but also fun and whimsical or modern designs that are clean and simple with an art deco feel. To see how these types of wrappers would work as wedding favors, visit The Knot or Favors and Wraps and see the wide variety they currently have in their catalog.

It’s unlikely that a bride’s choices in wedding favors and all other accessories for her wedding are going to start being more subtle as time goes on, as many brides are finding that these bold choices are a welcome change from what they’ve seen in weddings from generations past, and guests appreciate how unique and personal these choices really are.

Cutting Down on the Expense of Personalized Wedding Favors

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Most brides today want some type of personalized wedding favors; after all, wedding favors are meant as a reminder of that special day and this means having their name and wedding date somehow included on those favors.  But do any type of shopping today for personalized wedding favors and you’ll see that these can be somewhat expensive, some costing four or five dollars per piece and even more than that in many cases!  So how can you cut down on this particular expense for your wedding but not compromise how beautiful and unique this option is?  There are actually some simple ways to do this.

Many couples today want personalized wedding favors that include a favorite photo of them.  However, give this some consideration.  You may love this photo of you and think that the favors look wonderful with it, but what about your friends and family?  Will they really want to use coasters with your faces on them?  Or keep a key chain with that picture dangling from their keys?  There may be several guests who immediately think that this type of item is just a bit tacky, if not downright pushy.

Including the option for a photo is usually the biggest expense when it comes to personalized wedding favors, more so than just your names and date, and may include a set-up charge along with the charge for the favors themselves.  Ask yourself if this option is really worth the expense for an item that your guests may not even appreciate or enjoy using anyway.

Another big expense when it comes to personalized wedding favors is the need to have your name and date engraved in the item.  Anything crystal, silver, pewter or another hard element is probably going to cost you more than anything made of paper.  For instance, if you look at most small crystal paperweights that are offered as wedding favors, you’ll see that they typically cost around four dollars per item, whereas most personalized candy bar wrappers are less than a dollar.  This may be a small difference per item, but consider how many guests you’re having at your wedding.  A three-dollar difference in favors, multiplied by the hundred guests you’re inviting, means an additional three hundred dollars for those paperweights alone.  Since most couples today are trying to plan a wedding on a budget, choosing a more affordable option for personalized wedding favors may not be a bad way to go.

Of course, if you have some talent you can always make up your own personalized wedding favors by way of bookmarks you create yourself and have printed at the office supply store, or sugar cookies decorated with your names and date.  These are not only affordable options, they’re also very creative and a fun way for the bride to express her thanks to her guests.

In the past few years, the business of personalized wedding favors has been booming, with an endless variety of options for brides.  This is good news for those looking to save a few dollars on this part of the wedding and reception, as there are many affordable and still very nice choices, if you do a bit of shopping and comparison.

Unique Wedding Favors For A Unique Couple

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

A wedding favor can be unique if the theme or style of your wedding is different from the run off the mill ceremonies. Another way wedding favors are unique is if they are not intended to be used as favors in the first place.

Unique Wedding Favors by Theme

A theme for a wedding is not necessary only when you have a destination wedding; regular local weddings can have themes too. Some popular themes could be to replicate an era in time such as the 70’s or the Victorian Age. Or you could take a flower or shape to be the wedding theme; roses everywhere from the cake toppers to the centerpieces to the bridal bouquets will make everything look coordinated. An object like a butterfly or a flip flop can also be a great idea for unique wedding favors.

Dual Purpose Favors

By initially using the favors as place card holders, you can tell the guest that they can take them home and use them for notes or photos of their own. For a Vegas themed wedding you could give decks of cards or dice as favors and for a fairy tale theme, you could hand out horse drawn carriage photo frames.

An Asian wedding theme could have chopsticks or oriental soup spoons as favors; something people might not got out and buy for themselves but would like to use or display if they get them as gifts.

Practical yet Unique Wedding Favors

Luggage tags, tea infusers, wine glass charms and book marks are just some examples of unique wedding favors that are easy to utilize as opposed to be chucked away in some drawer. Everyone could use another bookmark and luggage tags get worn out quickly too. So, remember to give your guests something they can use.

Wedding favors, whether unique or typical do have one limitation most of the time; they have to be pretty small. This is because they are usually placed on tables before the guests arrive and hence should not take up much space when the food is served. If you have a unique wedding favor idea that is a little different from the usual size; then you may want to make someone in charge of handing it to guest s on their way out.

If you score a great deal on a poster print that complements your wedding theme for instance, then hand it out at the end as opposed to guests having to fumble with it during the reception and meal.
Imported Unique Wedding Favors

If you think all your friends have probably visited the same websites or read the same bridal magazines for unique wedding favor ideas; then you’re probably right. If you really want to wow your guest, get something not readily available in the US. Indian handicrafts, Japanese candy or British tea are just some examples of unique wedding favor ideas that your guests can not just pick up at any store.

Avoid Monogrammed Wedding Favors

In an effort to get a really unique wedding favor, many couples opt to personalize the item with the initial of the recipient. While this is a very generous gesture on their part, it is not very practical. Some guests may not be able to make it even if they RSVP’d that they could. Others might have to bring in an extra guest or two and you won’t have the time to get their specific initial engraved or embossed.

Favors can get mixed up and misplaced; it is better for everyone to go home with the same favor rather than Tim leaving with a ‘P’ candle and Rose with an ‘S’ embroidered handkerchief.

How Did Wedding Favors Become Part of Tradition?

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Wedding favors have a rich heritage, which dates back to the early dynasty of the Romans. The tradition of exchanging wedding favors is one that is indulged in throughout cultures around the world. In American society there is a lot of focus placed on wedding favors, though they certainly aren’t the only aspect of wedding planning. However, the giving of favors from the bride to all of those who have helped make her wedding day very special is not only a tradition, but it is also part of wedding etiquette.

So, what are wedding favors and what do they do? Typically, a wedding favor is a small memento or thoughtful trinket that the bride of the wedding presents to all of the guests that have attended. When wedding favors first came about, they consisted of sugared almonds, fancy chocolates, cookies and other delicacies. These have been given for centuries. But these days, edible creations are not the only limitation for wedding favors. Anything that is small, thoughtful and worthy of being made into a gift makes for a perfect favor.

Today, marrying couples may favor more personalized wedding favors. Think of small, highly decorated photo frames, custom labeled wine bottles, packets of floral seeds, personalized candy bars with custom wrappers, even jewelry and expensive cosmetics.

When should a wedding favor be presented? There are several options for when a bride may give out wedding favors. Sometimes a bride will hand them out directly as guests enter or leave a reception. In other events, the favors may be gathered in large baskets, which are then placed in open and public areas for guests to help themselves to. Depending on the type of wedding favor being used, it may fit in with the wedding theme so well that it becomes part of the place settings at the reception.

Planning for wedding favors might take several months. The nice thing about shopping for favors is that depending on the item you are considering for a favor, you’ll be able to find it at any discount retailer, or even a dollar store. The internet offers many online websites where wedding favors can be purchased, and specialty shops may also have wedding favors for sale.

If you need ideas for wedding favors, consider consulting with a wedding planner. These individuals are highly experienced with wedding planning, and will be able to help you find wedding favors that are perfect for your upcoming wedding.

Wedding Favors Will Turn Your Wedding in a Success

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Article Introduction:
The wedding ceremony indicates a sacred union between the bride and the groom and complementary to this, the wedding ceremony has to be a success. Basically, a wedding reception is where the married couple shares their happiness with close friends and family and at this point, it would be a wise idea to show your guests some gratitude. This is exactly where wedding favors step in – they are the bridge between the perfect wedding and the typical wedding. Wedding favors say “Thank you for attending” for you, and allow the guest not to feel neglected.

Article Body:
Since we were young, we all hoped for the perfect wedding – some of us hoped we will have a wedding ceremony similar to what we read in fairy tales, while some of us hoped for a smaller, intimate wedding. No matter the type of wedding we all hoped for, clearly we thought of our wedding as a real success – something that could tell the world that the couple has tied the knot. Therefore, it is important for the bride and groom that everything turns out perfectly. Another common thing with weddings is that the marrying couple wants their attendees to remember the moment for as long as they can, and this is where wedding favors become useful. This is how wedding favor turn any typical wedding into a success.

Wedding favors come in a variety of choices – they come as your typical “Thank you” card that can be both simple and elegant, and they can come as wine bottle openers, or bookmarks. Depending on your budget and your needs, it is always recommended to fit the layout and the style of the wedding favor to the theme of the wedding. Remember that the wedding favors actually become a part of your wedding ceremony thus, making them fit in is a very important step. The one thing you should not do is pick the wedding favors before actually settling the theme for the wedding – because you might end up having to spend twice that amount of money in the end.

Unlike everything else in your wedding planning, wedding favors allow you the opportunity to surprise your guests with a pleasant token of your gratitude for sharing your wedding day. Just think about it – wedding planning is generally only about the bride and the groom, even the guests are called to share the happiness of the marrying couple. This is why the guests should be reminded of their importance, and how close they are to your heart.
