What is the best non-registry wedding gift you have received?

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

What is a creative and non-registry gift other than cash that you have received for your wedding. I want to give something practical but unique. Fine china, crystal, bath towel, or kitchen appliances seem kind of boring.

Note: I don’t want to give anything sex related, just a nice awesome gift.

How much to spend on a wedding gift?

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

I got invited to a wedding on the opposite side of the country, so I will not be able to attend.

He was a friend in college, but I really don’t see him or talk to him much nowadays, since we live in different parts of the country. I think in the last 4 years, I’ve only seen/talked to him once. I will still get him a gift though. I see he has registered at Macy’s, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc.

Do you think a $30 gift is OK, or too little?

If a wedding gift was intended to just make someone cry…this would be it. A present for my best friend. I’ll see everyone next week with a real Request Tuesday. And as you are watching this I’m probably in the air heading back to Detroit!

Wedding Gift Guidelines To Consider

Friday, August 27th, 2010

A wedding is a special event, not just for the bride and groom, but also for the people attending the wedding. An invitation to a wedding can be a symbol that the bride and groom consider you to be close friends of the family. There are important rules of etiquette that apply to the wedding, from ways to respond to the invitation to guidelines for purchasing wedding gifts.

Although the emphasis on the wedding is the love and commitment the new couple shows, it is important to follow wedding gift guidelines so that you are not perceived as being rude.

One of the key things with wedding gift guidelines is to know when it is appropriate to give a gift and when it is not. If you receive an invitation to the wedding, you should absolutely purchase a gift if you attend. Often it is also a good idea to send a gift even if you cannot attend the wedding. The only situation where it is polite to not send a gift is if you have been out of touch with the couple for several years.

There are events related to the wedding that have gift guidelines as well. For instance, if you receive an announcement of the wedding after the fact, you should not feel obligated to send a gift. A congratulatory card will suffice in this case.

If you are invited to the engagement party, you should not feel obligated to bring a gift then, since there will be a time at the wedding for giving gifts. However, if you are invited to the wedding shower, it is polite to bring a gift. However, in this case if you do not attend, you do not have to purchase a gift.

A tricky area in wedding gift guidelines is knowing what you should purchase for the new couple. Though some will try to convince you that there are formulas to follow, there are no real formulas. The only thing that should determine the gift that you give the new couple is how close you feel to them, as well as your own budget. Of course, with the advent of wedding registries, it’s easy to pick out a gift, but if you are more comfortable picking out a gift without consulting the bridal registry, feel free to do so.

If you do purchase a gift, the final lesson in wedding gift guidelines is when and where to give the gift.

Wedding gifts may be given as soon as the marriage is announced. You can send the gifts to the bride’s home if you send it prior to the wedding itself.

It is also be permissible, and probably most customary, to bring the gift to the reception.

If you give your gift after the wedding, the custom is to send it to the new couple’s home.

Beyond this, there are no hard and fast rules with wedding gift guidelines. Don’t let the responsibility of purchasing a wedding gift detract from the true purpose of the day, which is celebrating the love that the new couple have each other.

Chrystal Holman recommends these wedding favors and bridal gifts.

How much should you give for a wedding gift?

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

My boyfriend and I have just learned that our friends who are getting married in a couple of weeks would much rather receive money for their wedding gift as opposed to items on their registry. What is an appropriate amount to write on a check for a wedding gift? We are all in our mid 20s, not exactly rich but not poor either.

The Wedding Gift

Product Description
Kathleen McKenna’s explosive third novel ‘The Wedding Gift’ excels in so many categories it defies them all. It is a spine-electrifying supernatural tale where a huge Southern States mansion contains one of the most terrifying, violent and indeed psychopathic ghosts to haunt any town. It is also a murder mystery – why did Robina Willets apparently kill all five of her young children, and her husband, before stabbing herself to death? And, if you are in the camp of believing that ‘justice …. just is not’, then this will have you frothing at the mouth with righteous social fury. Add to that the vision of two exceptionally beautiful girls lying on a landing stage in the middle of a secluded lake, sleeping naked in the sun …. …. and then see if you can find any consecutive ten minutes in this book when you don’t at least snicker at the heroine Leeann’s sly, caustic, sometimes-knowing sometimes ‘too stupid to live’ commentary. “Several times in the ‘The Wedding Gift’ Kathleen McKenna has the narrator bursting out with phrases like ‘Oh shoot, hell yeah, he was grinning like an egg suck dog’ or words to that affect. Well, that was me she was describing throughout the book, grinning like an egg suck dog. I don’t know what one of those might be, but I sure want to be one,” Tim Roux, author of ‘Missio’ and ‘The Dance of the Pheasodile’.
