How to handle wedding photographer not complying with contract?

Friday, October 1st, 2010

We live in the U.S. and got married in the UK last year and have yet to receive all that we were promised (and contracted) by our wedding photographer. We received prints but we were supposed to get the file of all the photos on CD with copyrights and a DVD of our photos put to music we chose along with a couple points of video throughout the day. What should we do next? He will not answer our calls or emails. We are to the point of hiring a lawyer to either get our money back or hopefully get what we paid for.

Product Description
Social media is changing the face of wedding photography. It’s now even easier to get up and running with a little help from Facebook and Twitter.

It’s all about laying the proper groundwork for a business that will make you happy in the future. This book will help you create a business that targets couples that you really get along with, and have fun with.
Beyond that, it’s about creating your ideal lifestyle, as well as portfolio – and using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Etc) to help grow your business.

This is the book to read if you’re just getting started as a wedding photographer. It details the steps I took to go from 0 weddings one season, to 37 weddings the next year and 47 the year following.

——————————–

The goal with this book was to write the book that I wish I would have had when I was just getting up and running. I’ve taken a lot of workshops over the past few years, and can easily say that you’ll get way more out of this book for the dollar value than any other workshop or seminar – that I’ve attended at least.

——————————

It is broken up into the following sections:

Part 1: Getting Up and Running (FAST!)
Detailed advice on how to set yourself up for success in the future.

Part 2: Shooting
Walk through a wedding day, and remove some uncertainty from the days events. Another perspective on how to professionally photograph a wedding

Part 3: Two Day Workflow
Don’t spend all of your time managing behind the scenes activities, and regain some of your life freedom

Part 4: A Few More Advanced Topics
General information about how to keep your business growing.

Part 5: Advanced Social Media and Online Marketing
Book more weddings by getting smart on the web.

New School Wedding Photographer is written from my experience, and contains information about how I would suggest starting a wedding photography business right now.

Hiring A Wedding Photographer – 5 Vital Points To Consider

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

An old saying reads – A picture is worth more than thousand words. While this fits in perfectly for the all ceremonial pictures, the wedding is once in a lifetime moment that one cherishes for years to come.

Usually, the wedding pictures refer to the photographs of the moments from the wedding. A majority of all these pictures capture the bride, the groom & their group.

We often fail to understand that the wedding pictures are not just a mere solid representation of the event. These are a real memorabilia of all the wonderful moments the couple longs to live for so long.

The culmination of all these pictures in one place that is the album is something that makes you nostalgic when ever you come back to it. Once again you share the union of your becoming a man & wife amidst all your friends & family.

So, while choosing a photographer for your wedding is a task one just can not take for granted. The reason for this is that only a good professional knows the right & creative angles & shots that would make the coverage more explicit & long lived.

So, in order to have truly long lived wedding pictures one must hire a good & professional wedding photographer, some one who could handle all the shots perfectly.

Below mentioned are some of the key factors that must be considered prior to hiring the service of the wedding photographer. These are some points that you must know:

1. Style of the wedding

a. First & foremost, you must decide the style of the wedding ceremony.

b. It could be formal, informal, semi-formal, or a theme wedding.

c. What ever style you choose to have, it would determine the sort of wedding photographer best suited for the wedding.

d. For instance, In case the wedding is a formal one, prefer the traditional style of wedding photographers. The reason for this is that these sorts of professionals always consider all the details & depth of photography & they are capable of using all good angles & shots.

2. Your budget

a. You must remember that all wedding photographers have their own style of work & they are not equal in their services.

b. You must be sure that you want to stick to your budget and you shall surely find a good professional with in the margins.

c. It is not very healthy to extend or expand your limits to get to the much wanted photographer. Try your best to limit your self to your budget.

3. Know as to what you are going to pay for

a. Prior to signing the contract with your wedding photographer, sit with him / her and gather complete information on all the items that you must know.

b. You must be very clear of all the terms & conditions of the agreement.

c. You must know all the items & services that you can expect from the wedding photographer.

d. Once you have affixed the signatures in the contract you would not be able to fight the discrepancies in the services then found.

e. Any claims & complaints then made would not be any worth.

4. Know all your rights you possess as a client

a. Many times there are moments when the wedding photographers get so engrossed in their job that they simply take no suggestions from the clients.

b. It must not happen as the ultimate discretionary power must always lie in the hands of the client.

c. At the end, you must make sure that the wedding photographer only assists the star couple and takes their decisions as final.

5. Photographer’s complete profile

a. Of course who would like to have spoiled films & pictures?

b. You must check & re-check the profile & the background of the chosen photographer.

c. This would help you get a perfect insight of all the capabilities of the chosen photographer & his professional reputation in the field.

d. Believe it, even the boiled out wedding photographs can be altered in to perfect, good, and bad ones. The ultimate talent lies in the hands of the wedding photographer. You better hire a good professional.

How to Choose a Good Wedding Photographer

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Your wedding album is something you will cherish forever.  Your children and grandchildren will look at it and be able to see how their story began.  It is a prized family heirloom that can be passed down for generations.  Choosing a good wedding photographer is vital to capturing those happy memories and making your wedding album everything you want it to be.  Wedding photography is different than other types of photography and you will want to choose a professional photographer that specialises in this field rather than a jack-of-all-trades type of photographer.

Your wedding album should be unique and an expression of your personal style.

The first thing you will want to do when choosing your wedding photographer is to look at their portfolio.  Look at the other wedding photographs he or she has taken.  Do they capture the moment?  Are they artistic and unique?  Or do they look like something your uncle could have done with his 35mm camera?  You want your wedding album to be unique and express your personal style, yet not so artistic that they take away from the subject—you and your wedding day.

Make a shortlist and arrange to meet all the photographers before taking a decision.

Next, you want to interview the wedding photographer.  Ask about prices and options.  Explain the details of your wedding and ask what kind of vision the photographer has for your wedding photographs.  Find out if the photographer is open to your suggestions as well.  Interviewing your prospective wedding photographer will not only help you to understand whether he or she will take the kind of wedding photographs you desire, but it will also help you to see how easy he or she is to get along with.  This person will be a part of your total wedding experience and will be dealing with your entire Bridal party as well as all your guests.  You want your wedding photographer to be personable and make the experience of having photos taken fun for everyone.

Investing time to choose the right wedding photographer is well worth the effort.

You only have one wedding day and you want it to be special.  Your wedding album will be your greatest keepsake and will help you to remember your special day and all the preparations that went into it.  Choosing the right wedding photographer takes some time and effort, but it will help make your wedding photo album everything you ever dreamed of.

Having a professional video produced of your wedding day is well worth the additional expense.

You may also wish to consider a wedding video of your big day. You will therefore need to find a wedding photographer that can also demonstrate experience in producing professional looking videos. Very often you will find that as this requires a different set of skills (especially in editing and post video production) it is more sensible to employ a wedding video specialist, to ensure that you will be totally happy with the finished result.
