How Did Wedding Favors Become Part of Tradition?

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Wedding favors have a rich heritage, which dates back to the early dynasty of the Romans. The tradition of exchanging wedding favors is one that is indulged in throughout cultures around the world. In American society there is a lot of focus placed on wedding favors, though they certainly aren’t the only aspect of wedding planning. However, the giving of favors from the bride to all of those who have helped make her wedding day very special is not only a tradition, but it is also part of wedding etiquette.

So, what are wedding favors and what do they do? Typically, a wedding favor is a small memento or thoughtful trinket that the bride of the wedding presents to all of the guests that have attended. When wedding favors first came about, they consisted of sugared almonds, fancy chocolates, cookies and other delicacies. These have been given for centuries. But these days, edible creations are not the only limitation for wedding favors. Anything that is small, thoughtful and worthy of being made into a gift makes for a perfect favor.

Today, marrying couples may favor more personalized wedding favors. Think of small, highly decorated photo frames, custom labeled wine bottles, packets of floral seeds, personalized candy bars with custom wrappers, even jewelry and expensive cosmetics.

When should a wedding favor be presented? There are several options for when a bride may give out wedding favors. Sometimes a bride will hand them out directly as guests enter or leave a reception. In other events, the favors may be gathered in large baskets, which are then placed in open and public areas for guests to help themselves to. Depending on the type of wedding favor being used, it may fit in with the wedding theme so well that it becomes part of the place settings at the reception.

Planning for wedding favors might take several months. The nice thing about shopping for favors is that depending on the item you are considering for a favor, you’ll be able to find it at any discount retailer, or even a dollar store. The internet offers many online websites where wedding favors can be purchased, and specialty shops may also have wedding favors for sale.

If you need ideas for wedding favors, consider consulting with a wedding planner. These individuals are highly experienced with wedding planning, and will be able to help you find wedding favors that are perfect for your upcoming wedding.

Renting Wedding Dress Become Popular

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

When preparing for a huge once-in-a-lifetime event such as your wedding, you’ll most likely book a special location for it; some of you may even hire a limo or go all out with a horse and carriage for transportation. But if you’re serious about trimming your wedding budget, you can always look into more family-owned venues for your reception, or style your own car for the occasion.

Beyond that, you can also save some bucks by renting everything else for your event. From the usual groom’s and men’s tuxes, you can go further by renting gown as well as the entire bridal party’s outfits. To add that final touch, the women can sign out jewelry as well, just for that one time. And don’t forget the wedding cake?

There is no doubt that your wedding dress will be one of the most expensive items in your wedding. In fact, you can save a fortune if you are going to rent the wedding gown. Renting a gown is also considered environmental friendly. However, renting a wedding gown is not the same as buying a new one because you have to return it after your wedding. In order to prevent unnecessary arguments with the bridal shop or the wedding dress shop, you should bear the following points in mind.

Reasons not to rent your dress Common arguments against renting a wedding dress include the fact that it’s not yours, someone else has already spent their special day in it. While that is true, what about the groom and his groomsmen? Most of the male participants in a wedding will rent their suits rather than buy them. If it’s good for the boys, it must be good for the girls as well! Like a rented suit, your rented wedding dress will have been thoroughly dry-cleaned and will be in good condition. There is nothing to be afraid of in terms of cleanliness. Other brides take a sentimental argument – the dress will be a special reminder of your wedding day and you may one day be able to pass it to your daughter. The likely scenario is that fashions will have moved on by the time your daughter gets married, and she may not want to wear your dress. As for memories, what about that expensive photographer you’ve got booked?

Renting will save you money The difference in cost between renting a wedding dress and buying your own (or having one made for you) can be staggering. Conservatively, a designer wedding dress could set you back $2500, while renting a wedding dress may cost you less then $250. The difference can be used to put towards a more extravagant honeymoon, or even towards a house deposit.

Wedding Photography Has Become an Art

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Have you ever gone to your friend’s house and find that there are all kinds of pictures from their wedding that are beautifully displayed for the whole world to see?  Do you spend time looking at these wedding photos?  For many couples, displaying their favorite pictures from their wedding are becoming not only a trend, but a really nice form of art.  Many times, you will find these pictures in the master bedroom or an office, but these wedding photography pictures are some of the couple’s most treasured pictures.

That being said, you probably know the importance of wedding photography and how it’s really important to look at album packages, but you should also consider what else comes with the package.  Your wedding photography package should include several displayable pictures that you and your spouse can keep, and a few to give away.  You should be able to pick the pictures, and the prices will range by size, but you should know that your parents and your spouse’s parents would at the very least like a picture of your wedding that they can display.

If your wedding photography package doesn’t include individual pictures, you may want to ask your wedding photographer if you can get a couple for a cut price, as individual photos can always be made, but sometimes cost extra.  If you are considering getting a lot of extra pictures from your wedding photography album or proofs, then you might want to pay for a set amount to begin with.

Prices on wedding photography pictures individually can range, but they can usually wind up costing you a pretty penny if you don’t incorporate them into your package, so you should talk to your wedding photographer about special pricing.  If you know that you will be requesting a certain number of photos from your wedding photography album, you should consider paying for them up front and see if you can get a discount on them.

This will also help to simplify things, as when you are picking the photos that you would like to use in your wedding album, you can also choose the pictures you want to be prepared individually.  You will then receive everything at the same time and can use your individual wedding pictures for display or gifts.

Another way that many people  are trying to get their wedding pictures for less money is to have them reprinted from the proofs or by using the online proofs that have been downloaded and saved to a computer.  You should be careful of doing this, as some of the online images will be encoded so that you aren’t able to reproduce them and some of the hard proofs have copyright information on them and cannot be reproduced except with permission from the wedding photographer himself.  So, unless you are really good with photo editing programs and want to scan your proofs into your computer, it’s probably best if you just eat the cost and have at least one or two wedding photos printed for display purposes and gifts.

If you want artistic, classic wedding photography pictures rather than simple snap shots, make sure to consider what you are looking for in a final product when you are choosing your wedding photographer.
