Cheap Wedding Favors and Ideas

Friday, August 27th, 2010

With oil and food costs going up with no promise of relief, brides and grooms everywhere are starting to cut costs. Whether it’s offering cocktail snacks at an afternoon reception instead of an evening buffet or finding cheap wedding favors, brides today are more aware of cutting wedding costs than ever before. Trimming your wedding budget doesn’t mean that you have to cut corners though – there are hundreds of cheap wedding favor ideas that will still leave your guests impressed without leaving a big impression on your wallet.

Takeout Containers

Craft stores and online warehouses offer nifty little favor boxes that are made to look like popular Chinese takeout cartons. Many of them come in a variety of colors and patterns, so it’s easy to find ones that match your wedding palette. This cheap wedding favor cashes in at around $1 or less per carton, and you can make a great wedding favor by simply throwing in a handful of mixed chocolates and other candies and using a ribbon to tie the two wire handles together. Voila! Just a few simple steps and you’ve got a cheap wedding favor that looks elegant and is simply delicious!

Going Green

Vellum or paper envelopes are extremely cheap wedding favors – they’re simply plain versions of the flower seed packets you see in the gardening section of your local supermarket. They’re available at just pennies each and you can fill them with birdseed, flower seeds or any other small growable item. This is a great cheap wedding favor idea because all you have to do is dab a spot of glue on the front of the envelope to adhere a bow or tag and you’re done! Your guests can enjoy feeding the birds or planting flower seeds in their own garden or their favorite park in your honor.

Soap Favors

If you’re really a do-it-yourselfer, you’ll love the idea of crafting handmade soaps for each of your guests. It’s a great cheap wedding favor because the cost of the raw ingredients all together is significantly lower than purchasing premade soaps for your guests. You can have a lot of fun with your groom when experimenting with scents for the soaps! Let your groom design the scent for the men’s soaps while you come up with something delicious for the gals. All you need is a standard soap mold (or you can go with different shapes if you like) and bulk soap flakes that only need to be melted down. Add the fragrance, pour the melted soap in the molds and let cool. Once your soaps are done, you can tie some raffia around them for a natural, rustic look or use traditional ribbon. You can even put them in organza bags for a little extra!

Get Baking

Everyone loves homemade brownies, cookies and other down home desserts. For a cheap wedding favor idea, grab some cellophane bags, a little ribbon and a whole lot of flour, sugar and butter. Bake up a storm in the days before the wedding and give a small batch of cookies to each guest. It’s a simple and delicious way to thank your guests for attending your special day, and it’s surprisingly easy on the wallet! You’ll save a nice chunk of change by making your own cookies or brownies and wrapping them yourself instead of buying premade confections. Plus, homemade items just taste better!

Personalized Champagne Flutes

This may sound like an expensive option, but if you’ve got more than 150 guests at your wedding, you can actually get a personalized champagne flute for less than $1.50 per guest. This cheap wedding favor idea is one of the best – you can fill the glass with candy or simply put inexpensive curling ribbon so it spills out of the top of the glass.

More often than not, you’ll be able to create cheap wedding favors by simply doing it yourself rather than buying prepackaged or premade items. You can still find traditional favors, like silver wine bottle toppers or small photo frames, at a discount but you’re far better off making a cheap wedding favor on your own. If you use a little creativity, you can create almost anything! Browse for ideas in bridal magazines or look online for inspiration! There’s nothing that says “thank you” than a homemade gift or treat crafted by you and the groom yourselves. What a great way to both show your guests how much you care and to save money!

5 Simple Steps to Making your Own Cheap Wedding Favors

Friday, August 27th, 2010

If you think it’s just too overwhelming to create and assemble your own cheap wedding favors, don’t! Any bride can save herself literally hundreds of dollars if she follows these few simple steps needed to create and assemble wedding favors on her own. With a little bit of planning and effort, you’ll find that you can do it too.

Step #1 – Decide your wedding favors budget.

Even when planning on assembling or making your own cheap wedding favors, you still need an idea of how much money you can spend. Let’s say that you have 200 guests and you want to spend less than $1 for each, so you have a budget of $200. That’s not a bad amount to spend on cheap wedding favors, and should be enough to let you make some very beautiful items.

Step #2 – Start early!

Making your own cheap wedding favors is going to involve a bit more planning, shopping, and work than if you simply picked out favors from a company online. Don’t wait until the week before your wedding to make plans or to start shopping. As a matter of fact, you should probably start today, no matter how far off your wedding is! This way you’ll be sure to finish and have your favors done in time for your big day, and keep yourself from some undue stress.

Step #3 – Decide what type of favors you want.

For cheap wedding favors, the best ideas usually involve buying something in bulk such as chocolates or Jordan almonds, and then assembling them into take-home packets of some sort. It might also mean purchasing less expensive items and then dressing them up somehow, such as small picture frames or boxes of bonbons that you wrap in silver wrapping.

The decision of which cheap wedding favors you select will be tied in with your budget. If you decide on those small boxes of bonbons, you need to figure the price of the chocolates, the wrapping paper, and anything else you need to put them together. If you want those Jordan almonds in take-home bags, you need to add up the cost of the almonds, the bags, and anything you use to tie the bags with, or personalized labels if you use those. It helps to do some comparison shopping for different ideas you have for cheap wedding favors, and then you can look at the costs for each item and make your decision from there.

Step #4 – Enlist some help.

Your bridesmaids and maid of honor may already be doing a lot of work for you to get ready for the big day, but you probably will need some help when it comes time to actually prepare those cheap wedding favors. It’s too easy to assume that you can just zip through an assembly line of chocolate and bags and whatever else, but you’d be surprised how much time these things can take, and how frustrated you get. If your friends are already at their limit with responsibilities, ask your future mother-in-law or future sister-in-law or even the flower girls, if they’re old enough. Chances are they would love to pitch in for an evening and see what they can get done.

Step #5 – Make your plan, and stick to it.

Some people are just very hypercritical of their own work, and it’s easy to start panicking and assume that your guests will know that these are cheap wedding favors or that you should have opted for something else. But remember, your guests will probably be happy with whatever you choose to give them, and chances are you’re just feeling nervous overall. Relax, work through your plan, and reassure yourself that your choice of favors is the right one.

Cheap Wedding Ideas – Saving Money on Location, Reception and Decorations

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

While most of the couple today are thinking of preparing a fortune to spend for one of their most memorable day – wedding, some might find this hard to believe that planning a cheap wedding is quite easy to do. Just like planning for an extravagant wedding celebration, cheap wedding ideas are also great and fun, and can be really unique and creative, too! So if you are one of many couples who opt to have a cheap wedding without compromising what you have desired to be in your special day, consider saving money on your wedding location, reception and decorations.

One way to trim down your wedding expenditures is by planning of having a cheap wedding location. Planning to have this cheap idea is not impossible to do. In fact, you can have your wedding ceremony in a variety of locations that are completely free. A great example could be a local park. Usually, going to a local public parks doesn’t require any fees, and so planning a cheap wedding ceremony there doesn’t give you any cost. They don’t usually require any permits of other fees too. However, just make sure you have double checked it with your local city authorities before anything else.

Beaches are also a free place where you can held your wedding. Other ideas may include: having your wedding at a family member’s home, or having it in your own backyard. If you and your partner loves nature, it may be free or very inexpensive to have your ceremony at a local zoo, nature reserve, or even at flower conservatory also.

Another area where you can save some money is your wedding reception. If you are on a tight budget, you can always go with cheap wedding reception, and believe or not this is not too difficult either. One of the most popular cheap reception is idea is to make a pot luck meal. You can ask each of your guests to bring their own dish. But if you’d rather not ask guests to bring food for your wedding reception, then perhaps asking a few family members to get together and cook food as a wedding gift for you can lighten your burden.

Planning a cheap wedding receptions should also involve choosing cheap location for the reception too. Example, if you’d like to have your wedding ceremony in the gazebo at the park, then perhaps the best reception option could be a barbecue or picnic style in that same park. Another easy and cheap option is of course, having your wedding ceremony in your own home. Then you can have your reception in your home as well, or out in the backyard if the weather agreed.

Wedding decorations are not only fun to deal with, but they can also cut down your wedding expenses.

You don’t have to go without them completely though, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend a big amount of dollars, rather you just need to improvise. Example, instead of buying expensive flowers for instance, try decorating with balloons and streamers instead. You may purchase a few spools of pretty ribbon at the nearest craft store or fabric store. Grab few balloons and tie them together using the strips of the ribbon. Also tie the ribbons into bows themselves, then tape the ribbon bows around for decorations by themselves.

Other ways where you can save money on your wedding is to purchase cheap wedding favors, inexpensive bridesmaids gifts, and discount groomsmen gifts. Giving wedding gifts to your guests and attendants doesn’t give you any reason to overspend your budget. After all, it is not the cost that is being valued, rather the thought behind it.

Cheap Wedding Ideas – 6 Ways to Save Money on Wedding Flowers

Monday, August 16th, 2010

In the United States, the average costs of weddings range from $20,000 to $40,000. Because of this statistic, some brides are finding ways to spend their money wisely – and this is accomplished by being creative.

They discover cheap wedding ideas which pretty much help them save more money. For example, here are ways on how brides can save when it comes to wedding flowers.

1. Give the florist a color scheme and the general style you like to follow. Indicate which flowers are also banned on your special day. However, being flexible allows you to use whatever is cheapest and is in season. There are times when peonies also cost a fortune even if these had always been the cheapest flowers for weddings.

2. By holding your wedding in the Christmas season or around Easter, you would save tons from wedding floral arrangements because chances are, the church is already decorated.

3. Flowers prices are high in February and especially around Valentine’s Day so if you want to save on your floral expenses, don’t set the wedding date on that month.

4. Remember that large arrangements set on the altar can only be seen when positioned far away. If you want one in your wedding, use the inexpensive flowers like carnations or you can fill up the flower vases with snowball mums.

5. Choosing the right venue to hold the wedding also allows you to cut back on expenses. A lush garden or beautiful park saves you costs on floral arrangements and decorations.

6. Chances are there are also some brides looking for ways on how to save. Therefore, talk to the venues and check whether there are other brides scheduled to get married on the same day. Ask if you both can coordinate the floral arrangements and split the total costs. In doing so, you get to save money.

Just be creative and efficient in coming up with the plans for your wedding. Being concise also saves you the trouble and the money in buying things you wouldn’t be needing in the end.

Cheap Wedding Dresses Online – Where To Find The Bridal Gown Of Your Dreams

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

There are several sources of discount wedding dresses online. A popular one is eBay, where such garments and other related items are available in a wide variety of styles and materials. Normal shops also carry real bargains and the best way to find out their locations in your area is by using the Yellow Pages. There are consignment businesses that stock ‘just worn once’ outfits. Some department stores also offer off the rack clothing, which tend to be less costly than those found in a specialty boutique. The trouble with this is that, the selection is limited as well.

Sale of outfits that are out of season in local boutiques is also a great way of locating inexpensive clothing. If there has been a ceremony recently among your family and friends, one could borrow their dress and save the cost of buying one. One could also visit bridal designer outlets thus, if unsure of the location of one in your area, check with the internet databases. While there, you can search in varied fields such as store location, name, or brand. Another source for less pricey solutions is mail order through internet mail order sites, or mail order catalogues.

Hiring the services of a dressmaker or making it yourself are also great ways to save on the cost of a shop bought outfit. To check the appearance and fit, make the entire outfit or just its bodice out of inexpensive material ahead of using the bridal fabric. A dress form should be used for in-process. Quality materials are available on various websites at discounted rates. One could also buy one from a trunk sale or acquire a store sample. When a bridal like dress is not sold like a bridal gown, they are not only less expensive, but come in ivory or white colors, such as cheaper bridesmaid’s dresses.

A bride could wear a typical outfit, such as a slightly informal special occasion dress, from a major department store. Online auctions may also offer bargains, as do online discount speciality stores. For a fraction of the cost, dresses that are designer samplers can be found at times, especially at the end of different seasons. These designer crafted clothes act as showpieces at boutiques, which are then sold at bargain prices. There are also duplicated designer dresses at some high-end online boutiques, which are sold after their showing.

The types of gowns found online are strapless, with straps, floor length, chapel train, sweep train, semi cathedral train, sleeveless, cap sleeves, short sleeved and long sleeved wedding dresses. More brides are opting to rent; this is an inexpensive option to buying it in an outright manner. Local bridal shops and wedding magazine websites will often reveal rental shops near you. Accessories can be sought in a cheaper way, such as borrowing the veil and buying inexpensive shoes
