The answer is NOT fondant. I think it’s buttercream but I cannot remember. I made this specific wedding cake frosting a while back and I cannot remember what I made. Just now I made my buttercream recipe and it just doesn’t taste like the frosting that I made before. Any ideas of typical wedding cake frosting?

What alternatives are there to sugar fondant and buttercream for wedding cake frosting?

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

I’m interested in a wedding cake that tastes good, not one that looks pretty. I never understood the concept of making food look nice but taste terrible. Sugar fondant, in my opinion, tastes and smells like caulking and buttercream is always too sweet and has a nauseatingly grainy texture. Are there any other alternatives to these two for the icing on a wedding cake? I’m having my wedding indoors in early spring so melting isn’t a problem.

My daughter may be getting married in Fort Knox after her boyfriend graduate from basic. I would like to surprise them with a small wedding cake, but a very good tasting cake. I would appreciate any recipes. Also, when a recipe calls for you to beat until fluffy, how many minutes does it normally take? I either beat too long or not long enough.Thank you all in advance for the help.
