New York Wedding Music and Entertainment

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

When you are planning your wedding, of course you are going to want to include some type of music and entertainment in the event to make the event that much more memorable. However; if you have watched any of the small claim court TV programs then you may have seen that many of the disputes that arise after a wedding tend to revolve around the photography and wedding entertainment.

To make sure that all parties involved in your event are happy with the services rendered then you are going to have to make sure that every detail is covered when you are contracting for these services. In New York wedding music and entertainment is available that is of high caliber and is performed by competent performers, so you want to make sure that this is what you get.

You will most likely see and hear a video that features what will be performed at your event when you are talking to the person that is representing the performers. If you like what you see and hear then make sure that you get it in writing that the performers and the performance that you are shown is what you are going to be receiving and also keep a copy of the video or DVD.

If there are any changes in the performers that have taken place since the DVD or video was made than ask to see a video of the performers that have stepped in as the replacement. Another thing that you will want to have included in your written agreement is precisely how long they are going to perform and when they are to begin the performance. Again, there is very high quality New York wedding music and entertainment out there because after all it is New York but the truly professional acts do cost more then the amateur start ups.

How do you get the wedding ceremony music timing right?

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

I am having a small outdoor pavilion wedding. The wedding party has 2 groomsmen, one MOH and a flower girl. Music will be played on an acoustic guitar. I am having trouble figuring out how the timing works. Obviously its not going to take a whole song (3ish minutes) to have the wedding party walk down the aisle, how do i cut a song short. Same as when I (bride) walk down the aisle. What do people do? let the song play out or just find a way for it to mellow out?

Need help with my wedding music?

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I think out of planning my wedding the music has been the hardest thing yet! My future husband and I normally listen to bands such as; Mest, Green Day, Chance of a lifetime, Midtown, NOFX… etc. I want a soft song for our first dance, but I don’t want the “classic” stuff… I want something a little more “punk” and obscure. Help me out!

Wedding Music – How to Decide Between a Wedding Band Or DJ

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

In choosing your wedding music, you will inevitably debate whether to hire a band or a DJ to lead your wedding reception festivities. In some instances, the type of venue you choose and the overall theme of your wedding will dictate whether you decide to go with a band or DJ, but the decision is always up to you. In making your wedding music decision, consider the pros and cons of each:

WEDDING BAND

• The Pros

A band is live, and when played by experienced musicians, nothing can beat live music. Talented musicians can really work with the theme of your wedding reception and modify songs accordingly. If the party is lagging, they can always switch the tempo. Hiring a band also adds the exciting possibility that anything can happen.

• The Cons

With wedding bands charging anywhere from $1500-$15,000, budget constraints can make hiring a band too expensive to consider. A band’s sound can also be limiting. If you want to hear from Beethoven to Outkast and everything in-between at your wedding reception, you may have some difficulty in finding a band that can play such an eclectic mix.

DJ

• The Pros

One of the main benefits of hiring a DJ is that all the songs are played as you know them; you can rest assured that your first dance song will sound EXACTLY as you expect it to and can plan accordingly. You are also likely to get more variety in sound with a DJ, and for couples on a budget, even the most expensive DJs are usually cheaper than hiring a band.

• The Cons

On the other hand, a bad DJ can kill the elegant atmosphere you carefully planned for your wedding reception – so hire wisely! A DJ typically does not have as much ability to improvise and set the theme of the evening. The songs will be played exactly how they were originally recorded and therefore can’t be modified to suit a beach, country or jazz swing wedding (for example) as bands can often do. Your DJ also can’t switch tempo if need be to accommodate your fiance’s dragging feet during your first dance.
