Save Money on Your Wedding by Buying Wedding Favors

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

How in the world can we say that you would actually save money on your wedding by buying wedding favors?  It’s actually rather simple – you save money overall if you use those favors as not just gifts to give away to your guests but as a way to round out your decorations or even take the place of certain decorations such as your centerpieces.

Here’s how this works.  When your guests arrive at your reception you want them to be greeted with a beautiful layout and this includes the individual tables.  Most brides choose very expensive centerpieces for each table but your wedding favors can actually do double duty here.  When you purchase your favors, be sure to wrap them in festive wrapping paper or something that matches your reception’s d?cor and then stack them in a nice arrangement at each table.  Remember that you don’t want to just pile them up but arrange everything neatly.

You can also use your wedding favors as decoration at each table by putting them in the middle of the top plate if you’re having a plated dinner, or put them at the place setting the same way you would the wine glasses.  If your tables are not going to be set when guests arrive such as for a buffet meal, arrange the wedding favors in front of each chair the way you would when setting a table.  By using your wedding favors this way you are making your table look very festive so you don’t need to spend extra on your centerpieces.

Dressing up your wedding favors is important when using them this way.  For those in boxes you can definitely use that nice wrapping paper and make them even more special by tying them with long ribbon that you gently drape over the table.  You can use ribbon for wedding favors that you don’t wrap such as for candles.  And to go the extra mile you can use something special for the ribbon such as strings of crystal beads, fabric trim, lace, or even tassels.  You can take your time to browse a sewing supply store, craft supply store, or even a scrapbooking supplier to find just the right material to make your favors really stand out.

Another way to use wedding favors to dress up your table is to sprinkle the tables with flowers petals or confetti and then set up your favors.  This way your table looks very festive but you’re saving money on decorations and centerpieces; flower petals or confetti is almost always going to be more affordable than centerpieces!

Remember that your guests are very happy to be at your wedding and are happy for you, but they still needed to get dressed up, have purchased a gift, and are there for you and your big day.  Purchasing wedding favors is your way of thanking them for being there for you and helping to make your day even more special.  While everyone is concerned about their budget today, you want to reconsider any impulse to forego wedding favors altogether and instead get as much life out of them as you can by having them help to fill out your decorations and the look and feel of your venue.

Cheap Wedding Ideas – 6 Ways to Save Money on Wedding Flowers

Monday, August 16th, 2010

In the United States, the average costs of weddings range from $20,000 to $40,000. Because of this statistic, some brides are finding ways to spend their money wisely – and this is accomplished by being creative.

They discover cheap wedding ideas which pretty much help them save more money. For example, here are ways on how brides can save when it comes to wedding flowers.

1. Give the florist a color scheme and the general style you like to follow. Indicate which flowers are also banned on your special day. However, being flexible allows you to use whatever is cheapest and is in season. There are times when peonies also cost a fortune even if these had always been the cheapest flowers for weddings.

2. By holding your wedding in the Christmas season or around Easter, you would save tons from wedding floral arrangements because chances are, the church is already decorated.

3. Flowers prices are high in February and especially around Valentine’s Day so if you want to save on your floral expenses, don’t set the wedding date on that month.

4. Remember that large arrangements set on the altar can only be seen when positioned far away. If you want one in your wedding, use the inexpensive flowers like carnations or you can fill up the flower vases with snowball mums.

5. Choosing the right venue to hold the wedding also allows you to cut back on expenses. A lush garden or beautiful park saves you costs on floral arrangements and decorations.

6. Chances are there are also some brides looking for ways on how to save. Therefore, talk to the venues and check whether there are other brides scheduled to get married on the same day. Ask if you both can coordinate the floral arrangements and split the total costs. In doing so, you get to save money.

Just be creative and efficient in coming up with the plans for your wedding. Being concise also saves you the trouble and the money in buying things you wouldn’t be needing in the end.

How to Save Money on Your UK Wedding Cake

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Wedding cakes can be an expensive line item in your wedding budget, costing hundreds or even thousands of pounds. A cheap option is obviously to make the cake yourself from scratch, if you have the skills, the time or the inclination. However, you might consider looking to the high street to find a decent cake at a decent price.

Firstly – look at the traditional supermarkets. All of the supermarkets – Morrisons, Asda, Tesco etc. do a range of what they call “special occasion” cakes ranging from a very reasonable ?10-20. Now that all of these supermarkets have a ‘finest’ collection, they also tend to do well iced, tasty rich fruit cakes. These are usually available in different sizes too, so you can layer them if you want to create a more traditional tiered cake.

Generally, the supermarket cakes are well presented but come only in plain white, which means that you will need to decorate them yourself. Luckily, this is easy to do! By browsing eBay or Hobbycraft, you can find tier holders and a selection of glitters, cake gems and foliage at very reasonable prices. For a white cake, rather than going overboard, you could always opt for some very simple green foliage (that is safe to put on a cake!) and a wedding topper – a sugar figurine of a bride and groom or something else that you like.

Waitrose supply some high quality cakes that are already iced and decorated. The same goes for Debenhams and John Lewis. These cost a bit more than the standard supermarket cakes, because they look slightly more special and professional, but they cost much less than a completely bespoke cake.

You might also consider a trip to Marks and Spencer, as they have a good selection of cakes – they offer a special service where they will make cakes to order for you. A whole selection of cake bases can be found ranging from sponge cakes to fruit cakes and even chocolate cakes. You can specify the size and the design on the cake and you can leave it white and plain to decorate yourself, or ask them to add some sugar flowers and other decoration. The price is around ?150 or so for a 3 tier cake, which compares very well to the prices that wedding cake designers will charge you. Like the other supermarkets, they also have a pre-packed range that you can buy and stack yourself.

At the very top-end of the high street, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols both have exquisite food halls and – not surprisingly – an excellent selection of pre-packed cakes. Selfridges also has a made-to-order service, which can work out very well.

Finally, if you are on a tight budget, don’t dismiss the idea of using good quality cupcakes or chocolate pots arranged in a tiered display that you could serve as dessert or leave on display for guests to help themselves later on in proceedings. You could even bin the idea of “cake” altogether and opt for Krispy Kreme doughnuts (arranged in tiers of course) or for a more continental croquembouche!

Five Ways To Save On Wedding Flowers

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

I’ll admit my bias up front: I love flowers. And not just any flowers, I love expensive flowers. Peonies, burgundy cymbidium orchids and mini calla lilies are among my favorites. When I was planning my own wedding, I tripled this area of my initial budget. Several brides share my love of flowers and that makes it all the more difficult to stay on budget. Even brides that do not share my extreme love for flowers want beautiful weddings, and your florist will play a huge role in that. As a general rule, flowers should account for 10-15% of your overall budget. Here are some tips to help to stay at or below that number while still having beautiful wedding flowers.

1. Do it Yourself

Yes, you can create your own wedding flowers. There are several online and local wholesalers where you can buy flowers in bulk for substantially less than what you would pay a florist. You should plan to receive your flowers 2-3 days prior to your wedding and have adequate space in your refrigerator to store them. If you are ordering too many flowers to fit into your fridge, air conditioning your home will suffice. Simple hand tied bouquets are relatively easy to create and you can gather bunches of flowers and place them in vases to create centerpieces. My advice with DIY flowers is to keep it simple! You are not a trained florist, so do not try to create more complicated arrangement that you find online or in magazines. Keep it simple. Also, a word of caution: if you are a perfectionist and want perfect arrangements, hire a florist. As a novice, you’re likely to make some mistakes and slight imperfections will exist. If that is not acceptable to you, it’s best to hire a professional. Also, it’s a good idea to do a test run before the real thing.

2. Use a delivery service

There are new delivery services, most notably Pro Flowers, which will arrange your wedding blooms and deliver them, already assembled, to your door 1-2 days before the wedding. They have several flower varieties and several packages to choose from at amazing prices. You will have to do a little work with this option. You should have vases prepared for the centerpieces and holder vases to hold your bouquets until the wedding. On the wedding day, you will have to designate someone to set up the arrangements. Several brides are nervous about this option because they worry that the flowers will not show up in time. Pro Flowers has a built in safety measure to prevent no shows. If your flowers do not arrive on the scheduled date, Pro Flowers has contracts with thousands of local florists that will assemble and personally deliver your flowers prior to the wedding.

3. Reuse, Reuse, Reuse

Slash hundreds from your florist bill by reusing arrangements throughout the day. Your ceremony altar arrangements can become a part of your reception d?cor, your bridesmaids bouquets can become centerpieces and your bouquet can become an arrangement for your sweetheart table. You can also ask your florist to reuse aisle arrangements from the ceremony as centerpieces during the reception. You may have to pay a slight labor fee for the arrangements to be moved and recast as centerpieces, but it will be much less than paying for both.

4. Stay in season

Different flowers are in season at different times of the year. If a flower is out of season, it does mean that you cannot have it, but it will be substantially more expensive. There are some flowers that are expensive all year round. These include mini calla lilies, tropical blooms and certain orchid varieties. Ask your florist about what flowers are in season for your wedding day and stick with those.

5. Cut back

Ask yourself what you really need and what you can do without. Do you really need pew bows? A pomander for the flower girl? An arrangement for the place card table? A floral cake topper? None of these things are necessary and can be replaced by other decorative items. Cut back on the excess and stick to the bare necessities.

Summer is the time when a large variety of flowers are at hand. Vibrant colors are usually used in bouquets and flower centerpieces. Budget Silk Wedding Flowers. Save yourself a Bomb on Your Wedding Budget

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Planning a wedding? Have you checked out the price of wedding flowers yet? If not you’re in for a shock. But if you use budget silk wedding flowers you can save heaps and still have great looking wedding flowers.

It’s quite a debate isn’t it? Do you use silk wedding flowers, or real wedding flowers? Well the cost certainly suggests that it’s better to use silk wedding flowers, because budget silk flowers for your wedding are dramatically cheaper than real flowers.

Particularly if you buy right. How do you buy right? Online.

Now of course you can’t really buy real flowers online. Yes you can ORDER them online, but usually they will be delivered from a local destination. However with silk flowers there’s no problem transporting them so you can buy them from a supplier that can ship them to you wherever you are, at a great price. Provided you buy right of course.

If you buy budget silk wedding flowers online you’ll slash your wedding budget. Flowers can be a huge part of any wedding budget, and so if you’re struggling to cover all your costs then you need to make some savings, and silk flowers is a great way to do so.

And forget the impression that many people have that silk wedding flowers look tacky and second rate. Modern silk flowers look as good as real flowers when you’re guests arrive, and they usually look much better than real flowers when your guests leave.

That’s because real flowers wilt. The petals fall off. They droop from lack of water if the stem doesn’t quite reach long enough. And within a couple of days they’ve pretty much had it.

Silk flowers, on the other hand, look as good at the end of the day as at the beginning. And they look as good a week later, and a month, and so on. If the bride wants a keepsake from her wedding day her silk flowers will look good for years to come.

And if you’re a fan of a certain type of flower, and want them for your wedding, you’re a little stuck if they aren’t in season when your wedding is planned. Want Tulips in January? Forget it. Unless you use silk tulips, in which case you’ve got plenty of options.

And even if they are in season, you may well find that the color you want is hard to get. Not if you’re buying silk wedding flowers.

So if you’re in the process of planning a wedding, consider using budget silk wedding flowers. Firstly you’ll dramatically slash your budget, which is a good thing. And secondly they will look equally as good at the wedding, or reception, as real wedding flowers. And there’s lots of other good reasons too.

Check out budget silk wedding flowers for a budget saving at your wedding. You won’t regret it.

Is it uncouth to inquire about a wedding invitation if you received the Save The Date?

Monday, June 21st, 2010

My mom got invited to a wedding from a young lady that she regulary sits next to at church.

She recieved the save the date a while ago, but the wedding is June 5th and she has yet to receive the invitations. Is it tacky to call the person and ask them what happened to the invitation?

We kind of assumed that maybe she had closer people to invite so had to let her go, but then the invite could have gotten lost in transmission. WHAT IS THE PROPER STEP TO TAKE?
