Wedding invitation wording-what to do with three sets of parents?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Okay, so we have an interesting situation. My parent’s (the groom) are paying the bulk of the bill however the bride’s parents are contributing as well. The bride’s parents are divorced and the bride’s mother is recently re-married.

Issues are:
Trying to include everyone on the invitation
My parent’s want some acknowledgment as main hosts
Bride feels awkward including mother’s new husband (we have been engaged for a year and a half-her mom just planned wedding last week for this March).

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Three Great Ideas for Choosing Fun and Meaningful Wedding Party Gifts

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

By Todd Haness

More and more couples are doing things a little differently for their weddings. Many couples have wedding showers co-ed style instead of the traditional girlie bridal showers and some couples are even having bridesmen and groomsmaids attendants that stand up for them but break from the tradition of being of the same gender. Things like this may have shocked our grandparents, but these days weddings are becoming more personal and meaningful to the couple versus strictly following “how it’s always been”. So why not be a little different and plan your wedding party gifts together instead of the tradition of the Groomsmen gifts being left up to the Groom and Bridesmaid gifts being left to the Bride? These three great ideas will help get you on your way to choosing the perfect wedding party gifts for your special attendants.

One way of making the wedding party gifts fun and also meaningful is to choose a theme. This can be particularly simple if there is something that all or the majority of you already do together. One Bride and Groom recently chose golf themed gifts that were suitable for all of their attendants because they had all golfed with one another at various times. They chose items such as an 18 hole golf cooler and the fun insulated golf club drink dispenser that sits in your golf bag with your clubs and made it even more special by including gift certificates for a round at the course nearby for the Maid of Honor and the Best Man. Another variation could be to add a gift certificate for the pro shop or for lunch in the clubhouse. By including something they will use and keep as well as something experiential you will really thank them for sharing in your special day.

Another fun idea for the right group of wedding party attendants is Happy Hour and gifts of home barware. This is especially appropriate for the Bride and Groom who love wine and maybe even goes wine tasting with their friends. There are many items like beautiful wine stoppers and bottle opening tools as well as digital Wine Masters that help guide wine lovers in their selections of the perfect wine that can all be great gifts. Include a bottle of your favorite wine or perhaps a special bottle of a wine that you know your friends love, and you have a lovely wedding party gift sure to delight.

For wedding parties when there isn’t necessarily a common connection amongst the attendants apart from all being in your wedding, there is a way to tie it all together and make the wedding party gifts very meaningful. One couple recently chose a unique gift for each individual but the common link was that each gift was able to be engraved in some way. The Bride and Groom then chose a phrase that is inspirational to them and had all the gifts personalized with it along with the date of the wedding. The attendants all knew this was something personal that thought had gone into whether they received a picture frame with the saying, a money clip or a flask. Each item was chosen with the recipient’s taste in mind, but the common personalization brought it all together with meaning.

Choosing gifts for your wedding party should not be something that adds stress to your planning. These are your special friends and you want them to feel appreciated for sharing your special day, not to mention buying that bridesmaid dress or renting yet another tux! Use these ideas to spur some imagination and creativity to come up with gifts that are not only useful, but are thoughtful and meaningful to the recipient. Combined with a personal note, they are sure to be the gifts that won’t be put away on a shelf and forgotten.

Cheap Designer Wedding Dresses: The Three S

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Recession or no recession, you may want to wear designer wedding dresses on your wedding day. And who can blame you? It is your moment of glory, after all, and moments of glory deserve only the finest finery!

With that being said here are the three S of getting your manicured hands on cheap designer wedding dresses.

Sample Sales

When you were a single lady, you probably heard of brides-to-be stampeding into stores in search of the Holy Grail of wedding dresses, designer or not. You probably thought, too, that there is no way on Earth you are going to be one of the masses, figuratively speaking of course.

However, now that you are about to add another ring to your finger, then you need to consider sample sales to save on wedding costs. Simply put, sample sales are events where stores sell their wedding wares at a discount, a hefty discount. This happens about once a year so you need to tap into your network of family and friends to be on the alert for these sales.

Here is how it works: You line up very early in the morning in front of the store. You then join the throngs of brides-to-be who dress and undress themselves in designer wedding dresses at the speed of light. You choose the dress and you pay for it.

Some tips: Go in your bathing suit to save on the hassles of getting into fitting rooms. Bring along a friend to help you with the process. Have an idea of your wedding dress to save time on looking at dresses that you will not like anyway. Most importantly, try to be a size 8 to 10 because that’s usually the largest size available.

Second-Hand Shops

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing second-hand designer wedding dresses especially when these are heirlooms. Think vintage and you can become one of the most fashionable brides on the block.

When you buy from second-hand stores, however, always opt for those in upscale neighborhoods for better finds. Or better yet, go to consignment shops. You can usually find better dresses in these stores since they only accept items in perfect and near-perfect conditions, which means more bargains for you.

Be sure to check if you can afford the cost of alterations and repairs since most second-hand shops don’t have return policies. Even if they profess to accept returns, put it in writing.

Sites over the Internet

Yes, the Internet is one of the best ways to save money on designer wedding dresses. Usually, websites will offer lesser prices than brick-and-mortar stores mainly because the profits of the middlemen are eliminated.

And then there are the auction sites like eBay, of course. You must proceed with caution, however, as there are Internet scammers who will not hesitate to rob money from starry-eyed brides like you.

When looking for the perfect designer wedding dresses to make you the glowing bride, you should never settle for less but you must balance it with your finances. Besides, who will know that what you’re wearing is cheap for a designer dress?

How do I word a wedding invitation for one ceremony and three receptions?

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

My partner and I are originally from different countries and we are planning on having wedding receptions in these two countries as well where we are residing now. We were thinking of doing a wedding invitation for the ceremony which will be in the country we are residing now and also include a reception card which will have the three reception venues in the three countries and give a choice in the RSVP card to tick which one they will be attending.
Would like to hear if you have been in a similar position, and if so what did you do?

Three Steps To Planning Your Wedding Flowers

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

When it comes to Floral arrangements and Decoration for weddings there are numerous options available. Floral Decorating options are endless and are limited only by the imagination, even the most outrageous floral decorations can be made to fit practically any budget provided there is time spent to do proper research regarding the many ideas that are available out there.

There are no set rules or limitations for wedding flowers. It is whatever the couple or more precisely the “bride” wants and can afford. Anything goes from renting the silk floral arrangements to do-it-yourself kind of deals for creative and imaginative brides and bridesmaids who are there to help the bride anyway. Planning for wedding flowers can be a lot of fun for bridal party who might come up with innovative ideas that you might not have thought about. It might also be fun to involve the groom in the process if he is an imaginative type otherwise forget about him, the most he will care about is to stick to the budget allocated for this category of your wedding.

Give yourself plenty of time to plan the wedding flowers, at least 6 months prior to the wedding date. Most brides want the flowers to complement the color scheme of and overall theme of the wedding particularly the wedding dress for the bride and the wedding attire for the bridesmaid etc.

Now the question is where to start looking for the perfect floral arrangements for the wedding? For starters check out the different Bridal magazines which are full of pictures of bouquets and wedding flower arrangements, that will give you some ideas to set a theme for your floral decorations.

Secondly and importantly, think about the types of flowers that will be in season at the time of your wedding. Choosing flowers that are readily available is a sure way to keep your wedding costs under control and within budget. Out of season flowers are very expensive to acquire and may not be available in some cases which will pose a hassle and a problem in many ways.

There are many creative ways to have your bouquets and arrangements do a double duty. Involve your bridesmaids and helpers in making arrangements if you are craft oriented to keep the costs down. Another way to keep the costs reasonable is to use more filler (more greenery) to your floral arrangements.

Thirdly once you have planned and figured out the flower arrangements and bouquets, shop around for a good florist who has reasonable prices and can turn your thoughts and ideas into a reality. It is to your advantage to select a florist early on because there’s a limit to how much even the best florist can handcraft and when you have the florist selected make sure that you go over the contract with a fine-toothed comb before signing to make sure the number and type of arrangements, including the flowers being used, are clearly specified along with delivery details. Keep clear records of the deposit amount and delineate the payment schedule.

As you can see it is lot of fun and work as well but the key is proper planning and not getting overwhelmed but staying calm and cool.

Three Wedding Cakes Disasters You Want to Avoid

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

When you were young and blessedly far from being wedded, you laughed at the videos of wedding cakes melting, falling down, trampled upon by nature, thrown by guests, and just simply ruined. Now that you are planning your own wedding, you definitely do not want these disasters to happen at your special day, not when your wedding cake is the main highlight of your reception. Not to mention, you spent a good deal of the food budget on it!

The best way to avoid wedding cakes disasters is to hire professional bakers with the right equipment to safeguard your wedding cake. You can choose from among a wide array of cake designs and flavors and they can answer your questions about your cake.

The Natural Cakes

We are not talking about wedding cakes made of organic ingredients and fresh flowers. We are talking about cakes ruined by Mother Nature’s creatures like insects, birds, cats, dogs, and other undesirable natural elements.

You have insects landing on your cake and adding in a natural color; you have birds pooping on your cake and adding in a natural flavor; you have pets that literally put their stamp of approval; you have leaves adding crunch; you have wind that thinks your cake is its birthday cake. The list goes on and on.

You can avoid these wedding cakes disasters by:

* Renting or investing in a screened tent for your wedding cake

* Erecting a fence to surround the cake with an umbrella poised above it

* Instructing someone to stand guard over the cake to shoo away undesirables

* Conducting your reception inside even when you have an outdoor wedding.

The Falling Cakes

This is one disaster you laughed at the hardest since this is the most obvious. For your wedding day, this is no laughing matter and one that you can avoid by following a few common sense tips:

* Make sure your wedding cake is placed away from high traffic areas like the dance floor and the entrance and exits.

* Ensure that it is far from the loudspeakers as the inevitable shaking is bad for your cake’s stability especially when it is of the three-tiered variety.

* Check the stability of the cake table especially when you have multiple wedding cakes; remember that it will be on display for hours and wobbly tables are disasters waiting to happen.

The Melting Cakes

Sure, you want a melt-in-your mouth cake that will be the rave of your guests. What you do not want is literally melting cakes with icing flowing down like gooey make-up on a very hot summer’s day, colors running into each other like a painter’s canvass gone bad, and flowery designs turning into Goth symbols.

This disaster usually happens on a spring or summer wedding when the heat and humidity can wreak havoc on your wedding cake. You can avoid this by:

* Ensuring your baker stores the cake in a carefully-controlled environment during the decorating stage and the transport to the reception venue

* Covering the cake with a tent if you are having an outdoor reception

* Keeping the cake away from heat sources and windows if you are having an indoor reception.

If you want to be surer, then you can always have cupcakes as your wedding cakes. It is practical and it is becoming more fashionable.

With expert advice on your dream bridal dress, wedding favours and wedding cakes, you will never have disasters on your hands on your wedding day. Visit BestforBride.com and get this expert advice today!

Three Wedding Accessory Considerations for the Marriage Ceremony

Monday, March 29th, 2010

A wedding accessory is that special additional item that enhances the wedding ceremony and adds to the special feeling of the day for the bride and groom. Often the wedding accessory is an opportunity for family members to take an active part in the celebration of two lives becoming one.

Three such wedding accessories that add value to the celebration of love and commitment are the unity candle, the aisle runner, and the ring bearer pillow.

Unity Candle

A wedding accessory that symbolizes the marital union of not only two lives but also the joining of two families is the unity candle. With two tapers on either side of a large pillar candle this wedding accessory is prominently placed in proximity to the site of the marriage ceremony. Prior to the arrival of the bride-to-be, the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom come forward and light the two tapers.

During the actual ceremony, the bride and groom move forward to the unity candle and light the large pillar candle from the flames of the two separate tapers. The lighting of the unity candle symbolically reflects their new family and the union from two separate families. This wedding accessory can be personalized and can include pictures of the bride or the groom and their family. It can also include a picture of the bride and groom together.

Aisle Runner

An additional wedding accessory that accents the ceremonial entry of the bride is the aisle runner. This accessory is rolled out for the bride as if she were walking on a red velvet carpet.

This wedding accessory distinguishes the bride on her special day and serves to underscore her commitment, beauty, and the sacredness of the journey that she and her groom are undertaking.

Ring Bearer Pillow

One additional wedding accessory that adds value and joy to the wedding ceremony is the ring bearer pillow carried by the ring bearer. Often a young beautiful child is selected to carry out this responsibility. This small cushioned pillow reflects the colors of the wedding party and is carried to the altar by the young child. Tied on top are the symbols of love and commitment as reflected in the wedding bands to be exchanged by the bride and groom. The shyness and innocence of the young child adds to the beauty of the marriage ceremony and is often a moment when the wedding guests let out with a collective ahhhh.
